I've got the fever

...and Runner's World has a few things to say about it (ie SKIP THE RUN, YOU FOOL!)
Check out the pro's advice here:

As for me, I'm going back to bed, 8 miles in the hole.

  1. Yeah. The 'above the nect or below the neck test is standard for knowing whether to run'. So snuffles, coldy above the neck stuff is okay just take it easy but below the neck chesty, achey more sinister stuff is a no run situation.

High temp is a definite no, no though so rest up. I dosed up and ran a race with a (drug supressed) temp in Feb. The second I finished racing the illness took hold and became ten times worse as I had driven it through my system by racing. Kind of glad I did cos I got a good position in a series of races I was doing BUT it is actually possible I could've died with sudden death syndrome (SDS) and people do.

For me I was doing the series and the races were one a month for seven months (and three of the races only had three weeks or so between the because of the time in the month that they were). I was doing well in the series at the time(ultimately I won the womens' series distance category)so I made a trade off and took the risk knowig I could keel over and die; however as your race is not immediate you have time to rest well, get properly better otherwise you will probably make things worse and have a far longer reaching impact on your training than if you took the time to get well now. So GET WELL SOON!!!!

  2. Thanks, Oscar! I'm trying to take it easy, but I find it hard to do--I know you can relate--and I worry about making up all that I'm missing in training, especially since this is my first marathon and I want to finish strong. ( I'm not the kind of girl to come in first!) I think though, that I'll be cozied up in bed for a while longer and hopefully stronger for it. Hopefully.
